Product Description
The Grumman F9F Panther was the manufacturer's first jet fighter and the US Navy's second. It first flew in 1947. Power was a Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet built under license by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. Since there was insufficient space within the wings and fuselage for fuel for the thirsty jet, permanently mounted wingtip fuel tanks were added. F9F-3: Allison J33 powered version produced as insurance against the failure of the J42, 54 built. All converted to J42 power later

Nice fitment, no excess plastic and good quality parts.
I've built a few Hobbyboss kits, and have always been impressed with them; this one happily continues the trend. The sprues are moulded from good quality plastic and there was no flashing (excess plastic from work moulds) to be found. The detail on all the parts is excellent, but is especially good in the cockpit, which is a sticking point for many manufacturers these days.Once built and painted (in my case, in Navy Demonstrator Red/Signal Yellow scheme) it is a very impressive representation of the Panther. The one problem I did have with this kit was the transfers, which with a couple of exception ls had succumbed to age and disintegrated on contact with the water. I managed to rescue the most important ones with extreme care, but decided to use some alternatives I'd saved from previous kits.A pleasant surprise was the inclusion of wing-mounted bombs and rockets.Bad transfers is something I haven't come across before with a Hobbyboss model, so I've only marked this one down by one star - Mistercraft and Roden have much worse track records for this. One last point to make, I had to pack the nosecone with Bluetac to prevent this one being a tail-sitter. One look at the landing gear configuration and I knew it would need it.All in all, it builds well and looks great. Plenty of scope for upgrades too. Recommended.

A very good kit.
Pretty good model, even better than the older Hasegawa kit I will soon build. Fair cockpit interior, gear can be built up or down - I did it retracted. I did the later Gull Gray over White paint scheme and used the Hasegawa decals on this kit. Turned out quite good. No problems, needed no seam filling. I can recommend this kit for a nice model of the F9F-3 Panther.
