Hi I use a clear alcohol such as alcohol vodka to wet the brush which evaporates, where water doesn't. You can buy a product that does this. And yes it does shimmer when applied. Alternatively I use it to lightly dust. It depends what effect I want.

I don’t see why not! It’s just like glitter.

You will get a small amount on your fingers but there is always plenty left on the icing, it sticks well. It's very satisfying stuff to use! Looks great.
